B-17 GATHERING & LANGLEY AIR SHOW 12-24TH MAY 2018
SATURDAY 12TH MAY
After our flight from Heathrow lands in the early afternoon at Dayton we immediately head for our first visit to the WACO museum at Troy
SUNDAY 13TH MAY
Today a full day at the recently extended National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson
MONDAY 14TH
Monday starts with the Champain Aviation Museum and Grimes Flying Laboratory as well as flying in the B-17 'The Movie Memphis Belle'. Also we look in to the Travel Air 6000 restoration at the Mid America Flight Museum.
TUESDAY 15TH MAY
Tuesday is devoted to visiting the several local heritage sites associated with the Wright Brothers. An additional visit was made to a decommissioned Nuclear Bunker.
WEDNESDAY 16TH MAY
Arrival of B-17s at the USAF Museum first then a visit to Carillon Historic Park before going to the Tri-State Warbirds Museum restoration facility
THURSDAY 17TH MAY
More Wright Brothers Heritage sites, Huffman Prairie, Hawthorn Hill before returning to the NMUSAFÂ for the Memphis Belle unveiling after many years restoration at the USAF Museum followed by a special B-17 fly over.
FRIDAY 18TH MAY
We visit the Mariners Museum with its replica of the USS Monitor, a union ironclad with the first warship gun turret, now recovered.
SATURDAY 19TH MAY
With rain forecast we forgo the airshow for a Harbour tour of the US Navy base of Norfolk, Virginia as well as the Nauticus Museum including the battleship USS Wisconsin.

SUNDAY 20TH MAY
As a group we decide to go the Warbirds Over The Beach air show instead of Langley as again rain threatens. Unfortunately the flying was cancelled after three T-6 Texans chewed up the soft grass runway.
MONDAY 21ST MAY
Today we visit the small but interesting collection at the Hampton Air Power Park as well as the Virginia Air & Space Museum before going to Fort Monroe and the Virginia War Museum
TUESDAY 22ND MAY
The National Air & Space Museum, Smithsonian is due for a major refurbishment so we take this opportunity to visit before sections start closing.
