WEDNESDAY 27TH JUNE
Fly to Anchorage via Vancouver, arriving on a sunny afternoon.The eastern end of the airport across the road and Lake Hood behind us, our hotel is in an ideal position. A DC-6B belonging to the museum is in the car park.
THURSDAY 28TH JUNE
From the runway overlook all aircraft landing or taking off pass in front of us. Then we visit the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum, also a great place to watch lake activities from the historic control tower.
FRIDAY 29TH JUNE
First Evert Air Cargo followed by Trans Northern Aviation. Drive to the Museum of Transportation and Industry at Wasilla, then to Palmer Airport. A Forestry Dept Conair Convair 560, Beaver and Turbo Commander, then to the restored C-119 .
SATURDAY 30TH JUNE
Full day at the Arctic Thunder Air Show at JB Elmendorf. Headline act is The Thunderbirds supported by the base F-22 Raptor demonstration. Supporting visiting warbirds and light aerobatic performers.
SUNDAY 1ST JULY
Second day at the Arctic Thunder Air Show. The AV-8B Tactical Demo is the main event involving F-16 Aggressors as 'Migs', F-22, AH-64, UH-60, CH-47, C-130 and C-17 as wellas ground troops and pyrotechnics
MONDAY 2ND JULY
Today mainly around Lake Hood, and a sightseeing flight in a Cessna 206 floatplane. We meet the owner of a restored ex US Marines Grumman Goose in USN colours.
TUESDAY 3RD JULY
Fly up to Fairbanks to visit the Alaskaland Pioneer Air Museum, visit Evert Air Cargo followed by a ramp tour before checking the floatplane base and Metro airfield.
WEDNESDAY 4TH JULY
All aviation objectives met, and more, today we go sightseeing. Drive through a one way tunnel to Whittier and charter a boat to see the glaciers and any wildlife
THURSDAY 5TH JULY
Today we fly home, but first a few more photos around Lake Hood and from the viewing area in the airport
